Scoop du Jour: Calling all Sarah Richardson fans!

by - Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Ever wish that Sarah Richardson (she of HGTV's Design Inc., Sarah's House, and Sarah's Cottage) could design your dream home? Well, for $895,000 (Canadian $) you can have your dreams come true. The house that Sarah redesigned in Sarah's House II is back on the market. I guess the recession has hit everyone since there's been a price drop on this house since it was first listed in September last year.

I would consider this house a bargain. It is signature Sarah... great use of neutrals, pleasing fabrics, fabulous tilework in the bathrooms, and bedrooms you never want to leave. Seriously, I would be a permanent guest if you offered me a night in that fab black & white bedroom!

P.S. Thanks to Anonymous who gave me the scoop on this scoop!

  3. Pip - Sorry, I don't know. It was originally listed last September, and the price dropped at least once before December, then the listing disappeared. I'm not sure if it was bought or pulled off the market.

Sharon - the price probably doesn't include furniture. But I know with Sarah's House 1, she gave the purchasers the option of buying the furniture too. And they did - bought it as is - who wouldn't!

  4. Hmmm... I wonder if I could convince a real estate agent that I am seriously interested and have them show me the house :) Since I'm an hour outside TO I doubt it would fly...

  5. I would consider moving to Canada, just to buy that house.

Its a long way from Melbourne, Australia, but I am COMPLETELY in love with that house...and its furnishings!

They had me at hello, when they showed the front lawn all covered in snow on the first episode. Gosh I would love to have a front lawn covered in snow!

  7. Haha Rosie, Come in Québec then, when "covered" means 4 feet of snow....

I love the inside of the house. The edits she did are wonderfull.

Every room has something gorgeous about it

  8. Great scoop! I wish I had $895,000 sitting around waiting for me to do something with it. Haha! I absolutely loved the guest bedroom and bathroom in this house.

  9. p.s. Here is another scoop. Sarah couldn't sell it back in December so she took it off the market and her dad and step mom moved in.

It will be interesting to see how it does this time -- the area does not have many current listings, and that is still a high price for a small (but beautiful) home.

  11. Amanda - you're in luck, there's an Open House this weekend ;)

Maman - I've seen the 4' high snowbanks in Montreal! I don't know if I could survive a whole winter there.

Sarah - Very interesting! That's one of the perks I guess of having a famous designer daughter.

Mike R - Agreed. I kind of thought the location of the house would be a challenge. I don't think there were many comparables in the area.

  12. I like Sarah Richardson's style but I'm not wild about this reno (I haven't seen the show since I live in England). The reno doesn't feel true to the character of the house or the neighbourhood at all - it's just not what I expect to see inside a modest postwar bungalow. Possibly part of the problem, as you and Mike sort of suggested as well.

  13. On a Sarah Richardson topic...has anyone stayed at the Park Hyatt Pink room? I'm from MD, and have the chance to book it. Is it worth the $325 price?

  15. I love your blog and I am also a huge Sarah fan! I tried to convince my husband to sign up for Sarah's new reno show for our master bedroom but he's too shy :-( I really like Sarah's House but I miss Design Inc... so much natural drama and friction that Sarah's House lacks as there are no clients. Okay, gossip on House #1 and #2. House #1 was sold in May 07 for just under asking (1.169)and went back on the market in Fall 09 for 100k more (1.269) as the couple who bought it are getting divorced. Not sure what it ended up selling for. I know that the original couple bought 90% of the furniture for an additional fee. House #2 was listed for $929,000 and was then pulled off the market during the crash in Fall 08. Sarah's parents lived there for a year and then it was re-listed for $895,000 in Sept 09 and the house sold for over 1M in a bidding war. Another FYI - when Sarah calculates all her costs at the end of an episode she gives the price you'd pay but NOT the price she paid. She gets tons of freebies and deals due to all the business she gives various companies. So her profits are much larger than they'd seem. Hope you're enjoying the new season... lots of yellow and a lot of "corbel" discussion!

  16. Housefly - how do you know these things?! Ok, you are officially my go-to-girl for designer gossip ;)

I'm liking the new season of SH3 - though with a $600k reno budget, I'm sure almost any country bumpkin could make a silk purse out of a sow's ear!
