On The Run

by - Thursday, May 20, 2010

And FINALLY the carpet runner is in. I say finally because its taken a year and a half to get this thing... we shopped around, we purchased, we waited, the place we purchased from went bankrupt, we waited for our refund, we shopped some more, we finally found it AGAIN at the new place that bought all of the old bankrupt place's inventory, we bought, we waited some more, and its in!!

Which is a good thing because this little one is getting pretty good at clambering up those stairs! Baby gates are going in this weekend so enjoy them in their unblemished state while you can.

  2. Beautiful!

I have a similar stair layout and am planning to rip out the carpet and stain. Can you post something about how your stair refinishing went?

    Thanks!

  4. Lindsay - the carpet is Godfrey Hirst. I think you used them as well for your nursery? I love their carpets.

m - wish I could, but we had someone do the stairs for us when we first moved in. However, you should check out ourcastlereno.blogspot.com and 416fixerupper.blogspot.com as they have some great posts about stair refinishing.

LauraJane - looks AND is mischievous ;)

  6. Love the runner. Tip for the baby gate...make sure it doesn't scratch the floor when opening/closing...as we ended up with a scratch. I put the felt pads you put on furniture feet underneath the swinging gate and that stopped the scratching.

  8. Those are my dream stairs!! Great work!! I feel you on the hideous baby gates - they ruin everything!! I'm not sure if you've bought yours yet, but we got the "Summer Infant Sure and Secure Walk-Thru Gate" from Toys R Us and we find they are so much better than some of the other models - no screwing in the wall required! Have a good weekend!

That girl is full of personality. Love it. And I love the runner. I want one too...when I do get one, I hope the process is easier than yours. My goodness!

  15. Tara - thanks for the tip!

Shannon - thanks, unfortunately we had to have the ugly wall mounted kind for the top of the stairs. Some designer should make these things more aesthetically pleasing, don't you think :)

Cece - we purchased the runner at Alexanian Carpet. It's by Godfrey Hirst, the Avon style in the Broadway colour. Did you mean the wall colour? Its Rockport Grey by Benjamin Moore but I had it colour-matched at Home Depot using Behr paint.

  19. Looks amazing! We'll be redoing our staircase this summer and I've been going back and forth between doing a runner or not - this definitely pushes me towards going for the runner!

  21. How did you install the runner?
Did you use a tack board?

I love the look it gives the stairs!

  22. Lindsay - we had professional installers put it in. They came, measured, took the carpet away and bound the edges, and then came back and installed it. They didn't use a tack board. It looks like its held in with staples.
