To Do's!

by - Sunday, January 02, 2011

Can you hear that? Its the sound of pencils being sharpened and To Do lists being written out! I would write mine out too but there are only two big projects on the agenda this year: renovate the basement and create a big girl room for Chloe.

We've been slow on the start of the basement but we've been waiting for our contractor to become available and then we've gone back and forth on the scope and price. There's just some things we can't bear to pay for (like $2200 for painting? No way! Where's my paintbrush?!!) Now things are just falling into place and demo should start next week. I'll give you a proper tour of the "before" basement, complete with the never-before-seen "Van Gogh" bathroom (yes, the Monet wasn't the only masterpiece I had in my home!). This part of the process is so thrilling to me. Okay, I'm not a fan of all the demo dust and debris but seeing a big empty space down to the studs sure is exciting!

And before we jump into the chaos, I'll take one more deep breath and remember how relaxed we were on our Christmas vacation in the Mayan Riviera. Here's the wee one with her toes in the sand. Ahhhhhh!

  1. I'll be eagerly awaiting all your progress reports. I love seeing rooms come to life. And I know what you mean about lists. My big goal for this year (at least!) is to finish two bathrooms and the bedroom. I think both our goals are totally doable.

  5. That is a stunning picture. Talk about an inspirational palette! We're busy moving things from last year's "didn't do" list to this year's "hurry up and finish this already" list. Maybe we should just call them idea lists, rather than "to do" lists?

The Mayan Riviera?? Lucky family! She looks mesmerized. What an experience.

You are naughty for holding out on the Befores. No one will judge...plus, they make the durings and afters all that much sweeter.

  11. What a great picture. We are in the process of booking our vacation and planning on going to Mayan Riviera too. Which resort did you go to? How did you like it? Our son is 3 and we had a bad experience in the past and that's why I am asking.

Looking forward to reading your post in the new year.

  18. Shadi - we went to Iberostar Paraiso Lindo in Playa Paraiso, which is in between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen. Absolutely loved it. It was extremely family friendly - with a wave pool and lazy river to boot! Email me at ramblingrenovators@gmail.com if you want more details!
