Advent Activities

by - Wednesday, November 21, 2012

So glad you all liked the laundry room. We're pretty happy with how it turned out. I'm still working on the post about sources and lessons learned so for now let's talk about something else that's on my mind.

Dec.1st is coming up real quickly so it's time to dig out the Advent calendar I made last year. You can read all about these cute little stamped bags here.

Now what to fill them with?? Like last year, I'll put in the handmade ornaments my mom and I made and I'll include some "activity cards". Since Chloe is another year older, there's a lot more fun activites she can do so here's this year's list:

Of course there will be some candy and chocolate treats in some of those bags too :) Even though these calendars can require some effort, I love that it actually reminds you to appreciate the best of the season - the snow, the food, the decorations, and most especially the time spent together as a family.

Do you do an Advent calendar? What do you put in your calendar? Treats? Ornaments? I'd love to hear!

  2. Last year I did little gifts (stocking stuffers), chocolates and treats but this year I've pledged to simplify Christmas (see http://www.newdream.org/programs/beyond-consumerism/simplify-holidays/pledge ) These activity ideas are great! Thanks so much for sharing!

  3. I kind of want to do something for advent this year. We always have an advent wreath with advent candles to light on Sundays, but I kind of what to do something more, daily during December. Time is running out to figure it out!

Even though i have gobs of fabric at my disposal i never seem to get to such cute projects as this. We buy either a lego advent  (so each day has a new mini figure in it) or the chocolate kind but only the fair trade kind usually for 10,000 villages - both are a hit with our boys.

  8. I love this!! This is so much better than those store bought advent calendars with the yucky chocolate! Hopefully we get some snow in December so you can do all your snow-related activities!
I was going to make an advent calendar got James, but as he's only 9 months old, I figured it can wait until next year :)
