Easiest Valentine Craft Ever

by - Wednesday, February 05, 2014

One of my favourite things about having a dedicated craft space is the freedom to just get an idea and craft the heck out of it. Having space to keep my supplies organized and a well lit table to work at, really encourages me to be more creative. I've been in the mood to make things so I decided to throw a fun Valentine's Day themed tea party for Chloe and her girlfriends later this week. Aside from eating macarons, we'll be making some crafts including this quick and easy cupcake wrapper flower:

The girls attending are between 4 and 7 years old and I wanted to have a craft that was simple and they could do on their own. Cupcake wrapper flowers are nothing new, but every version I've seen involves a hot glue gun. So I've made this version glue-free and it is seriously the easiest valentine craft ever.

Materials required:
- pipe cleaners
- regular sized cupcake wrappers
- washi tape

  1.  Take 4 cupcake wrappers. Using a pencil or scissors, poke a small hole in the center of the wrappers.
  2. Take a pipe cleaner and create a small loop at one end.
  3. Insert the pipe cleaner through one of the wrappers. Wrap the wrapper around the pipe cleaner.
  4. Affix the wrapper in place with washi tape. Repeat steps 3 and 4 with three additional wrappers to create the flower.
  5. Near the base of the flower, create a large leaf shape with the pipe cleaner. Bend the remainder of the pipe cleaner upwards
  6. Wrap the pipe cleaner around the leaf twice to secure the leaf and form the stem.

Super easy and pretty flowers, ready to give to your sweetheart! You can create different varieties by combining pipe cleaners (Chloe made the striped white and red one in the jar below) or using different patterns of cupcake wrappers.

I think we'll make a few more and give these as Valentines for her classmates. The crafting never ends ;)
