Cottage Living

Jun 15, 2015

The first day of summer is a week away and for many, that means time to escape to the cottage and sit by the lake. In Canada, cottaging is a national obsession - maybe because Canada has more lakes than any other country in the world? I have fond memories of days spent at friends' cottages, trying out waterskiing for the first time or laying out on the dock, spending cool summer nights with hoodies and Roots track pants on, doing puzzles in the dim light.

We're eager to make more cottage memories this summer and in a few weeks we're heading to Sandbanks Summer Village. I fell head over heels for this cottage resort when we took a tour last summer and I can't wait to spend a week there. It has me cottage dreaming and I've rounded up some of my favourite cottage style ideas.

...nautical inspired details like brass hooks and porthole mirrors

...porches made for lounging (even better if they come with a hammock!)

...stripes of all sorts and painted floors

...ample doors and windows to let the breezes flow

...quirky details (like oar stair rails)

...and exposed rafters. These looks inspired laid-back living and invite you to relax. And if you drag a bit of the sand in, that's okay too.

Are you escaping to a cottage this summer?
