The Cottage Diaries: Construction Update

by - Tuesday, October 06, 2015

Now that I have a bit of a breather on the work side of things, I can put all my focus on the new cottage. Things are moving along quickly with construction! Luckily, I have a spy to keep me up to date on the goings-on :). Margaret also has a cottage in the resort and she's been kind enough to send me updates (thank you!!).

Here's how things were looking at the beginning of September:

So exciting!! It's fun to see how the cottage is situated on the site and sits relative to neighbouring houses. I was glad to see that they didn't have to clear all the trees around the cottage. It'll be nice to have a little bit shade in the summer. And three weeks later, here's where we're at:

Whoohoo, it's a cottage! This is the view from the front. The porch is on the left and the dining room is behind the large windows. Our cottage is on the corner lot on a crescent that houses about 12 cottages. The cottages are all colour-coordinated so ours will eventually be painted that reddish brown colour you see on the right.

Here's the view from the back. Bedrooms are on the left and right, bathrooms are in the middle, and the window at the top is in the loft. I think the loft will be a really fun place for Chloe to hang out with friends. I, on the other hand, plan on spending my time out on the porch...

The porch is what really sold us on this model. It's big enough for a lounge area plus a small dining area. We requested a few electrical changes out here to really illuminate the space but you'll have to wait and see how it ends up looking. You can bet we'll be putting up twinkle lights out on the porch to extend those summer nights just a little bit longer.
