Unique and Affordable Hostess Gifts

by - Thursday, December 08, 2016

Are you hosting any holiday parties this year? Our new house will still be in boxes so I'm looking forward to celebrating the season in the homes of our family and friends. That means I'll need to bring along a hostess gift or two. One can always bring the expected bottle of wine, but why not gift something a bit more unique? A recent trip to Real Canadian Superstore proved fruitful and I came away with a few fun and affordable ways to say "Thank you!"

Buffalo plaid! You know I couldn't get this into my cart fast enough. The Life at Home™Woven Plaid Hot Water Bottle ($15) would make a great gift for your stylish girlfriend. I'd pack it together with a few magazines and a box of tea (this is my favourite in the winter months) for the most relaxing night-in.

Do you like to bake cookies for the holidays? I love it when friends bring me baked goods! The Holiday Essentials™ Train Tin  ($6.97) makes for a super cute way to transport your treats. It has two compartments so you have room for baked goods and chocolates or candy too. I picked up these truffles in store and the are SO good. Definitely a welcome treat!

For the ultimate hostess, the Cheese Knife Set with Board ($22.47) is a beautiful and elegant gift. It's a great size for serving cheese and charcuterie. Have you tried the PC Black Label fine cheese selections? Add crackers and grapes for instant charcuterie! After the party, prop the cheese board against the kitchen backsplash as a decorative accent.

With the hostess gifts out of the way, I couldn't resist circling around Superstore to see what new and seasonal food products that had in store. I came across the President's Choice Rustic Tea Carrot Cake ($7.98) and I'm not ashamed to admit we devoured that cake right after this photo was taken. Carrot cake is a favourite in our house and this one was moist and delicious. Like the trendy 'naked cakes', it only has icing on the top which means its not overly sweet. If you came to my door with this cake, you'd absolutely get invited back ;)

Are you ready to celebrate the holidays? What hostess gifts do you like to give, or receive?
