Small Bathroom Design Ideas
Summer is in full swing, with a few more days at the beach, road trips, and
warm weather adventures ahead. But if you're anything like me, you probably
also have one or two summer projects looming over you.
I start the season with good intentions to tackle projects like organizing the
garage or cleaning out the backyard shed, but there's one project we never
seem to get to before we're back in the swing of school and work routines.
Meet my cottage bathroom:
Small and compact, this bathroom has been virtually untouched since we had
this cottage built nine years ago. While it's not the prettiest, it's usable
in its current state which is why it constantly falls to the bottom of the
priority list. I'd much rather be spending cottage time at the beach than
painting walls, wouldn't you?
Small Bathroom Design Ideas
But I'm determined to finish this bathroom update before the leaves fall this
year. First task is to decide on the design elements and create a mood board
to guide us. My first stop? Wayfair Canada.
Wayfair Canada makes it
so easy to pull all the elements together, offering bathroom vanities,
lighting, mirrors, faucets, and everything else I need for a small bathroom
redesign.
And from August 21st through September 2nd, 2025, Wayfair Canada will be
hosting a
Labour Day Clearance sale with up to 70% off and fast-shipping on the
products you need for your home. It's a great time to plan out your purchases
now and take advantage of the upcoming sales later.
My only challenge is narrowing down the style I want for this space.
Our cottage
sits in a resort in the country by a lake and is five minutes from a
provincial park. I could go in so many different directions with this
design.
I thought it would be fun to explore a few different styles before I decide.
Have a look and let me know which style you would pick!
Modern Country Bathroom Design
SHOP THIS LOOK:
If I had to sum up our current cottage style, it would be Modern Country - a
balanced mix of florals and plaids, wicker and wood, all in a palette that
leans a little masculine. This bathroom with a mix of deep greens, slate grey,
and crisp white would fit right in.
The
vintage green vanity is
the star of this room. The flat door fronts, deep colour, and engineered
marble top offer that appealing mix of modern meets traditional. Around it,
the details echo that contrast: streamlined shiplap against elegant
chrome hooks, a
beveled pivoting mirror,
and cool grey
slate tiles. Fluffy
blue grey towels add
a soft, inviting touch.
The result is a space that feels current and refined, yet still familiar -
like a fresh take on something you’ve always loved.
Cottage Charm Bathroom Design
SHOP THIS LOOK:
This design embraces the ever-popular English cottage style - a blend of
small, thoughtful details that feel feminine, traditional, and just a touch
whimsical.
It starts with the
36" bathroom vanity with marble top. The furniture-style base lends a sense of craftsmanship, while the polished
brass
Victorian single-handle faucet
adds heritage charm. Classic basketweave marble tile
on the floor elevates the look with timeless elegance.
For the walls, paintable 3D embossed beadboard wallpaper offers instant cottage character and is surprisingly easy to install.
Finishing touches - a decorative round mirror,
gingham shower curtain,
and
semi-flush mount light
with scalloped shade - layer in personality and charm, making the space feel
both curated and inviting.
Simple Rustic Bathroom Style
SHOP THIS LOOK:
On the other side of the design spectrum is this simple rustic bathroom -
warm, grounded and effortlessly modern. Sleek details like the LED light bar,
matte black aluminum mirror
and
single-handle bathroom faucet
with waterfall spout bring a contemporary edge.
At the heart of the space, a wire-brushed oak vanity steals the show. It's natural grain adds warmth and depth, while the
integrated feet and flat-front drawers keep the silhouette clean and minimal.
To soften the dark metal accents, I'd keep the rest of the room light and
creamy. Natural materials like this
limestone wall and floor tile, waffle weave towels in
unbleached cotton, and chic
stone-look waste basket add subtle texture and keep the space inviting rather than stark.
Coastal Chic Bathroom Design Ideas
SHOP THIS LOOK:
Lastly, I could draw inspiration from our lake-side setting and design a
coastal chic bathroom that feels like a deep exhale. A low-contrast palette of
whites, creams, and soft grey-greens creates instant serenity.
The key is layering natural textures. The
faux grasscloth wallpaper
in the faintest light blue sets a breezy backdrop, especially paired with the
fluted detailing of the
single vanity.
In the shower, a polished marble mosaic floor tile and
rustic amber wall tile would add richness and warmth. They help ground the design without
weighing down it's airy mood.
Finishing touches make this style shine: a brushed gold bathroom mirror and
semi-flush mount pendant for a hint of sophistication, plus velour striped towels
and a
wicker waste basket to echo the relaxed, beachy vibe.
From coastal chic to rustic modern to English cottage charm, I’m spoiled for choice, and Wayfair Canada makes it so easy to pull each look together.
This post is sponsored by Wayfair Canada, but as always, I only share products and ideas I truly love and would use in my own home. Now tell me - which style would you choose for our cottage bathroom?
