Overnight Fix

by - Tuesday, October 11, 2011

A little while ago, I was invited my friend interior decorator Lisa Canning to come take a look at her latest project. Together with Christian Pavey from HGTV’s Pure Design, Lisa led a team of volunteers to overhaul the Toronto YWCA’s Women’s Housing community room… in 24 hours.

The project was the brainchild of Jergens. To launch their new product, Overnight Fix, they decided to nix the usual promotional activities and channel the funds into this “overnight fix”. How cool is that? The YWCA provides safe and affordable housing for women and their families and this communal space is the heart of their home. In one day, Lisa and team were able to transform the space from this…

Ah-mazing!  I can barely get a wall painted in 24hours and they redesigned an entire room. This was a top to bottom makeover and the list of updates was endless - new ceiling tiles, painted walls, vinyl flooring, two banks of cabinetry, furniture, accessories, drapery, wallpaper!

Since this room plays host to everything from a weekly food bank to Zumba classes, the design had to be versatile as well as stylish. All the furniture pieces can be moved around or tucked away and surfaces are wipeable and durable. Accessories were limited to a few zingy purple accents which kept the room from feeling too sterile.

I really liked how they used two types of inexpensive flooring to define the sitting area. Such a great idea you can replicate in your own multifunctional space! It was inspiring to see what can be accomplished in such a short time. Great work guys!
