Real Potential with Sarah Richardson

by - Wednesday, September 11, 2013

Hands up if you're a fan of Sarah Richardson! Not only does Sarah create the most amazing designs, but she continually produces must-watch TV shows and has put her stamp on everything from fabric to paint to books. Is there anything she can't do?

So you'll understand when I say I am thrilled to be joining Sarah and a group of lucky bloggers for tea at Sarah's design offices next week. If only I could find something to wear!!

Sarah will be filling us in on some of her new ventures, including her latest show, Real Potential. It premieres with back-to-back episodes at 9pm and 9:30pm on Sept.19th on HGTV Canada (sorry American friends. You might have to wait a while to catch this series!). The show promises to show a new side of Sarah (you can watch the promo here) and I for one am hoping it brings something new to design TV. Don't get me wrong - I loved the glamour of Design Inc., the renovating drama of Sarah's House and the humour of Sarah 101 but there's been something lacking. These days, aside from Sarah, the shows seem to be of two extremes: renovating shows where the final decorating elements are lacking; and decorating shows that feature only quick fix temporary design solutions.

Where's the beef?? (Am I dating myself with that phrase?)

In my own home, we strive for a balance of architectural beauty and livable design. I think many homeowners seek a similar balance but its difficult to find design shows that inspire and cover that spectrum. Hopefully Real Potential, with its mix of real estate, renovation & remodelling will give a new perspective on the many aspects along the journey of making a house a home

Will you be watching? What are your favourite shows on design TV?
