The Fiddle Leaf Fig for Plant Killers

by - Monday, March 10, 2014

I've wanted a fiddle leaf fig for a long time (can I call myself a blogger and not have one??). But the truth is, I kill plants. All plants. Aloe, cactus, bamboo... nothing can survive my black thumb. It's not that I don't try to keep them alive. I water my plants (maybe too much). I give them sunlight (and put them beside cold windows. Does that matter?). I talk to them. But still...

So when I was looking to add some greenery to the basement, I knew I had only one choice. Go faux. The basement has four small windows and really only one of those gets a good amount of sunlight so a fake plant is the only thing that can survive down there. Luckily, Ikea had some good fake plant options.

The plants are from the FEJKA line. This is the tall one and this is the small one. I put the plants in FRIDFULL plant pots but they were looking a little boring so I added a simple painted stripe on each pot:

The tall plant is actually a fig too. It's a bit on the small side and it's not as lush as the real thing but it brings in the beauty of a plant just the same. And I'm betting even I can take care of this one!

Do you have fake plants in your home? They seem to look more realistic these days so I don't mind them.
