Mood Board: Our Wildwood Cottage

by - Monday, March 14, 2016

Did you enjoy your weekend? We took advantage of the good weather to get some painting done. It feels good to refresh our spaces! But, despite the changes we're making at home, my mind is off at the cottage. If the good weather holds out, the resort will open up and we'll be able to start the season in three weeks!

It was about time to show you some plans I have for our cottage. We've decided to name it Wildwood... it's our cottage in the trees, a place for us to find our wildhood again.

Mood boards are really helpful in helping you define a style for a space. I find that even if I know what pieces are going into a room in real life, seeing them all together on paper (or this case Photoshop) helps to really pinpoint what works and what doesn't.

I didn't know quite what direction to take the cottage - beachy, lakehouse, farmhouse - all of these styles could work. What I've ended up with is a look that a bit French, a bit country, with a casual cottage vibe.

It started with the Serena & Lily Riveria Counter Stools. They really capture everything I wanted to feature in the cottage: black and white, timeless design, and practical, functional furniture that is still beautiful. I'm drawn to plaids, checks, and florals so I'm hoping to put those patterns on drapery, bed linens, or accent furniture. And there will be shiplap! It might be super trendy right now but it's a classic wall treatment that will last for years to come.

Do you moodboard your decorating ideas? It really helps guide me in making new purchases too!
