Summer Mantel Decor

There's no denying it, the world has been a heavy place lately. I've shared my thoughts on Instagram about #blacklivesmatter and what I'm doing starting in my own home. Feel free to chime in and share your thoughts too.

But for today, I'm in need of a bit of a reprieve. The days have been blending into one another - understandable as we're now in our 12th week of staying at home. Even though it feels like we're stuck in an endless loop, the longer days, bright sun, and shorts weather tells me we're not... summer is on it's way.

Today I'm joining with 25 bloggers for the Seasonal Simplicity tour hosted by Krista of The Happy Housie. I'm sharing my summer mantel decor which is all about vintage accents and coastal breezes.

Have you redecorated your home for summer? This is one season where I do like to switch up my decor. Bring on all the whites and breezy blues, the lightweight linens and classic stripes. But make it simple - I like a clean and uncluttered feel in the summer.

My summer mantel decor is anchored (ha!) by this original ship painting. It's by Canadian marine artist Ken Deeley dated 1985. I found it in an antique shop last summer and they had over a dozen of his works. I'm very tempted to go back for more and build up a large collection fit for a gallery wall.

I had the painting recently framed at Michaels and I love how it turned out. If you're considering Michaels for your art, wait for a 50% coupon for sure as custom framing can be SO expensive! I tried the painting with modern frames, ornate frames, light wood frames... but none had that vintage appeal like this worn black and burnished gold frame. Original art can be an investment but this is a piece of art I can envision owning forever.

With a statement piece of art, the mantel didn't need much else. I've dressed it very minimally with vintage stoneware jugs, faux Queen Anne's Lace stems and a real philodendron, and a pair of candlesticks. The earthy hues pick up on the rustic frame. Everything feels aged and worn, with a hint of refined coastal elegance.

Beside the fireplace, I've placed our new striped pillowtop ottoman courtesy of Wovenbyrd. Wovenbyrd is a sponsor of the One Room Challenge and I'll be moving this ottoman to the basement once the remodel is done, but I couldn't resist adding it here. Stripes are a summer necessity and they bring a touch of modern contrast to this mantel vignette. I hope you've enjoyed my vintage coastal summer mantel!
