To achieve a more traditional look\n  for the fireplace mantel, I put together a layered garland. This full and lush\n  look is created with four garlands. Textiles can\n  add warmth and texture to your display. I've misplaced my cable knit stockings\n  so I'll have to add those in later, but for now, I've brought in this striped\n  ottoman and plaid throw to sit in front of the fire. Not only do they add\n  neutral colour, but they invite you to sit and stay a while. The older I get, the more I\n  appreciate both the living and dying of plant life. There's beauty in all of\n  it.\n\u003C\/div\u003E\n\u003Cdiv\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\n\u003Cdiv\u003E\n  I found both of these vases at the thrift store. Oh how I miss going to thrift\n  stores! We are still under lockdown so for now I'm resigned to shopping\n  online. But of course, I wouldn't find anything as special as that vintage\n  green vase online. Sadly, the basket has\n  never looked quite right so I won't recommend it. The\n  \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+LxDfI_PzPv0glPHEPIfbNg\" target=\"_blank\"\u003Emister\u003C\/a\u003E\n  is a favourite accessory that is both functional and pretty. If you're\n  looking to add something unique and handmade to your home, and support local\n  artists, pottery is a wonderful way to do that. The fireplace is cozy even bare, but adorned\n  with a garland and decor, it feels extra special. I used to agonize over getting the\n  fireplace mantel to look \"just right\" and feel balanced and symmetrical. But\n  then I realized, things don't \u003Ci\u003Eneed\u003C\/i\u003E to be perfectly balanced and in fact\n  might look better when they have a 'thrown together' appeal. In other words, I\n  discovered I don't need to be so uptight with my mantel decor! I've had a few different things above the fireplace - a round mirror,\n  artwork - but I keep coming back to this shield mirror. I've put this arrangement\n  on the mantel to bring height and texture. I love how the cool tones of the\n  bucket and the painted pumpkin contrast with the warm tones of the mirror and\n  \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+XyOVquHpIHp6nuF3s2BIBA\" target=\"_blank\"\u003Efireplace screen\u003C\/a\u003E.\u0026nbsp;\n\u003C\/div\u003E\n\u003Cdiv class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\"\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003C\/div\u003E\n\u003Ch4 style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\"\u003ECandlestick Holders\u003C\/h4\u003E\n\u003Cdiv class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\"\u003E\n  The gold candlestick holders create a nice bridge from the tall flowers to the\n  piece of art. Having that flow and connection between objects is very\n  important when creating a mantel display. I found this frame at\n  the thrift store. The art it contained (a page from an old calendar) wasn't\n  particularly noteworthy, but the frame was nice. I removed the art and spray\n  painted the mat with satin black spray paint that I had on hand. It gave the\n  mat a slight textured look, almost like leather. For the art, I printed a\n  \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/images.nga.gov\/en\/page\/show_home_page.html\" target=\"_blank\"\u003Efree download from the National Gallery of Art\u003C\/a\u003E. This one is \"L'Ile aux Moines with Figure and Cart\" by\u0026nbsp;Eugène Boudin.\n  The simple graphite drawing brings vintage charm. Contrast keeps your eye\n  moving and makes your display come alive. Here, the shiny moss green vase (\u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+W3i6BkBaGiQc2uGJwnXQ1w\" target=\"_blank\"\u003Esimilar\u003C\/a\u003E) plays against the textured leather books and rough antler. Without this\n  shiny object, this side of the mantel would look very flat and monotone.
