Final Touches
A few final touches in the kitchen... the magnetic chalkboard is up. We had the cabinet manufacturer make an oversized door and HandyMan painted some sheet metal with a few coats of chalkboard paint. He attached the metal on some mdf and mounted it in the frame with some construction glue. At the bottom, I attached our Etsy vinyl decal. So cute. I love the touch of black against the white cabinets.
We also got our Sony LCD TV mounted. We used an 8" arm, to give us a little swing action. Funny, but with the TV, we find we spend more time now in the kitchen...a way to kill some time while you're waiting for water to boil, or its good background noise when you're tidying and cleaning up. Go figure.
Is the kitchen done? Just waiting for the curtains to come back from the seamstress, and then yes, it is done :)

I'm going to be chalk boarding my pantry area in the next couple weeks and I might have to steal your etsy decal idea!
ReplyDeleteMy question is - do you think it's confusing - the year you moved in vs. the year the house was built? I would have a hard time choosing between the two... Also, because Jeremy and I aren't married we have different last names. I might just do "[Street name] house - established 1929."

I love it! I would love to be able to watch some Entertainment Tonight or something while cooking. Very sharp installation too, nice work!
ReplyDeleteCabinet hardware is to die for.
Absolutely breathtaking, I love all parts of your kitchen!
ReplyDeleteI, too, am going to be chalkboarding a door soon and just may have to "borrow" your decal idea - it's just so darn cute!
I love, love, love how your kitchen turned out. The vinyl decal is the perfect finishing touch!
ReplyDeletej&k - sure, you could have the year as the year the house was built. That would make it more like a plaque; it'll look great too. I used the year we bought the house because I thought it was a bit more personal (plus, I like how it said "home" established and not "house" established)
ReplyDeleteWe were JUST talking about painting a chalkboard and white paint version of a monthly calendar on a door near our kitchen. Yours is super cute (thanks for the how-to tips, too!), and very inspirational.
ReplyDeleteIf I didn't also have a similarly gorgeous kitchen as yours, I'd be dying of envy. That's how shallow I am, I guess. But I do love yours. You guys did such a lovely job.

Love, love, love, love, love . . .
ReplyDeleteLove the chalkboard and the decal.
ReplyDeleteI was very anti tv in the kitchen until I actually hade one. Now I need it. Its a nice little distraction. Do you have cable hooked up to it?
Yes, mrs. limestone, we have cable... though we only ever seem to watch HGTV or the Food Network ;)
ReplyDeletei would love to have a tv in our kitchen! our ipod dock normally ends up in the kitchen, i guess i like to have background noise while cooking :-)
ReplyDeletei also love the chalkboard idea, i've been thinking of doing something similar in our kitchen.
I could live in your kitchen. Seriously, I could set up a little bed and I'd be happy. Love the chalkboard and decal.
ReplyDeleteObsessed with your kitchen! Great Job! I agree I could also live in your kitchen!
ReplyDeleteGreat little details. Can't wait to see the curtains!
ReplyDeleteWOW! The TV is in!!! What a sweet treat for cooking!!! :) :)
ReplyDeletei love the magnetic chalboard idea so much i went out and got some sheet metal and the etsy sign (with the year we were married on it)
ReplyDeletethanks for the inspiration!
Your kitchen is absolutely beautiful. I am in the process of choosing granite for my white cabinets, and was wondering how you have felt about your Kashmir White. It is my first choice, but I have read that it tends to stain easily. Have you had that experience? Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy! I am very happy with the Kashmir White. I haven't had any issues with staining. However, I have noticed our slab has a few small yellow spots (look like coffee droplets) which I hadn't noticed before installation so that's something to watch for. Overall, I'm really happy with the look and feel of it.
ReplyDeleteLove the magnetic chalkboard~ it's so charming! Love your blog too- new follower here- would love if you would stop by and say hello! I love renovating too! Stopping by from the chalkboard party.
ReplyDeleteLove that you added the decal! You have one of my favorite kitchens too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming to the party!
