Love it or List it?

by - Sunday, April 12, 2009

HandyMan and I are doing a bit of nesting and cleaning this long weekend, at our house and MIL's house. MIL has these chairs from the 1970's. We love the lines but the chairs definitely need to be restored... the wood needs refinishing and the stained leather replaced with new leather, or maybe calfskin or suede.

We don't know anything about the provenance of these chairs. They may have been made by Nienkamper, a local Toronto manufacturer known for their modern furnishings. Anyone have an idea who made them? What do you call this style? And - if you were going to list these chairs for sale, what do you think is a fair price?

  1. They are Campaign Chairs (see the centre one in this link).
I have two Brazilian mid-century ones with suede backs/seats that I bought on ebay last year. I bought mine with the table so I don't know value per chair, sorry.

look into just getting the leather restored. it shouldn't cost much and i think there are things you can do at home to help it. leather is amazingly easy to restore.

Those are pretty cool. Do you have a space in your house in mind for them?

  4. I love these chairs. I think you would be better to keep them and repaint or restain them. I think the leather would be a great choice. Can't wait to see what you decide.

    Take care,

  5. No idea of sale price but I also vote keep em. They are awesome and probably worth something.

  6. Most often called Safari Chairs, I think.

These are definitely Neinkamper safari chairs, I have two as well, but love how worn they are. I suggest restoring the wood only, and perhaps conditioning the leather, but I wouldn't replace it. Try Waddingtons in Toronto for a resale valuation.
