Good Ideas

by - Sunday, January 24, 2010

Sorry for the lack of posts around here. It was a busy week. HandyMan and I were preparing for our PechaKucha at the Interior Design Show. I'm happy to report it was a great success (though one presenter had a bit of a 'colourful' vocabulary so we may have to institute a 3 second time delay with next year's event!).

The theme was "Good Ideas" and we had a fantastic and diverse group of presenters including, him, him, and her. He was our Master of Ceremonies. What they had to say was truly inspiring and I love hearing folks talk passionately about what they do! I can't wait until the next event.

Work continues on the bedroom. Drywall is up (yay!) but nothing much else post-worthy, so I'll leave you with pics of good ideas I like. Click the text to see image source.

  1. I love beadboard ceilings ... hope to do that to our front porch at some point.

Pretty stuff. So I am thinking of repurposing my old round dark oak dining room table as a bedside table--I think that might be a Good Idea. I have a big empty corner in our room, and the current bedside tables are, well, garage sale-esque. I am worried, though, that it will not have the effect I've seen in magazines, and that it will just look like I put my dining room table in my bedroom. I should just try it and see, huh?

  3. vez - we want to do the same thing with our back deck ceiling. Paint it a nice haint blue like a real southern porch

jbhat - I think that's a good idea (and I'm jealous that you have enough room in your bedroom for the table!) The only issue may be the height and scale of the table. If its a pedestal table you may consider shortening the leg. Or even painting the table a light colour if it looks too massive in the room. Would love to hear how it works out for you!

Thanks for the follow-up comment. It is a pedestal table, and I am thinking of putting a floor length table cloth on it to lighten it up, if it fits in the space scale and height-wise. I will definitely keep you posted! Thanks again.

  5. Thanks again for letting me loose on Pecha Kucha! So glad I can now pronounce it properly, lol, and looking forward to next year!

  6. I ripped out the picture of the yellow barn door a few months ago! LOVE IT! We are going to install one in between our master bedroom and the sitting room off of it. Let me know if you guys end up doing it as well. I have yet to start researching where to get all the hardware.

  7. thanks for the inspiration! i love a real wood burning fireplace and a couch in the dining room...working on having both...someday!

  8. I don't even know how I stumbled upon your blog but I am glad I did. The work you and your Handyman have done is amazing. I was wondering if you would share where you got the headboard in your nursery. I love it and am in the market for one.

    Thanks in advance.

  9. Following your blog is a good idea that I love!

So glad that I found it!

  10. Awesome designs! I like the beadboard ceilings and the daybed. It would be cool to have them in my home. I have just started renovating the exterior of my house, and the very first thing that needed to go were my old windows. They are very unpleasant to look at especially with some rotten wood. I then hired a builder to install vinyl replacement windows (Minneapolis based builders) in my living room. I especially like these windows because of their high ventilation and energy efficient qualities.

I'm really glad I found your blog. You are a big inspiration to many of us who follow your blog. Keep it up!
