Before & After: Modern Vintage Bathroom

I know. This bathroom renovation took forever. It started well enough. We installed the beadboard, picked fancy tile for the shower, and found a pretty vanity that we had repainted a soft grey And then things sat as I flip-flopped on so many decisions. The wallpaper, the glass shower door, the window blind, and then the mirror - you were all so troublesome! ;) But let's forget all that and take a tour, shall we?

We've packed a lot of character into this small space. Like the rest of our house, the style is a modern take on vintage. It all starts with the beadboard and trim. HandyMan did a fantastic job and I'm a little sad we don't need trimwork anywhere else in the house because he's become really skilled and quick at it.

I think every room needs "something old" and in this bathroom, its the mirror. Its imperfect and has a chipped frame but I like that. The natural wood adds warmth and colour.

Then we layered in the vintage details. The library label holders are my favourite touch. I added them above the towel hooks (Mine, Yours) and on the shelves (Refresh, Comfort, Soothe, Cleanse). They're totally unnecessary but they make me smile.

I stuck to a crisp black and white palette which works really well with the rest of the basement. I was so indecisive about the wallpaper but my longtime love the Coronata Star proved to be the right choice. Keeping the wallpaper to a narrow band around the perimeter of the room prevents it from overwhelming the space.

Do you remember what this bathroom used to look like? It was covered in a hand-painted mural the previous owner had installed.

And now, it feels much more "us". :)
