A Summer Getaway

by - Thursday, June 12, 2014

If you follow me on Instagram, you'll know that last weekend I managed to escape the hustle of the city for the quiet shores of Georgian Bay.

I was invited by President's Choice along with seven other bloggers for the Loblaw Ultimate Summer Retreat. While the weekend was all about the food, I couldn't help but be distracted by our spectacular surroundings...

This is what an 18,000 square foot cottage looks like. I KNOW. I won't even tell you about the beachside yoga or the hot tub.

But the food... that is something I wanted to mention.

I've long been a fan of the President's Choice products for their taste and quality and innovative offerings. Through the course of the weekend, culinary expert Andrea Buckett showed us easy ways to meals from ordinary to extraordinary with a few simple ingredients.

My favourites? The double baked potatoes (greek yogurt cream cheese makes it heavenly) and the breakfast churros shown below. They're made using butter puff pastry put in a waffle iron, with raspberry syrup dipping sauce on the side. You can bet I'll be making those for the next family brunch!

It was a nice escape from the routine and I enjoyed trying new products and spending time with new-to-me bloggers Cayla, Jeannine, Tamara, Louisa, Sonya, Melanie, and Mara. I've got a few recipes added to my repertoire too. Not a bad way to start the summer.

Disclosure: I was invited on the summer getaway but was not asked or compensated to write this post. All opinions on the food I happily consumed, including the three servings of the sweet potato salad and two key lime cheesecake lollipops, are my own.
