Spring Updates and Easy Table Setting Ideas

How long have you lived in your house? Less then three years? More than ten? We're coming up on nine years in this house and it's at the point where it could use some updating. No major changes (we've renovated all we can!), just a much needed refreshing of spaces.

As it happens, a few weeks ago eBay Canada reached out and challenged me to make the most of my budget and select products to update my home for spring. Fun! If you know me, you'll know a) I love shopping online and b) I love getting a good deal. I've been shopping eBay for years and have found some of my favourite home purchases on the site (the capiz chandelier in our bedroom tops the list!) so I was eager to take on the challenge.

One of my first picks was this rug from ecarpetgallery. I love that there are storefronts on eBay and you can shop by vendor. There are many recognizable names too, like Wayfair and Lowes Canada. Shopping the brands you already know and admire makes it somewhat easier to shop the 800 million+ listings eBay has online!

I know, I know - this rug clashes with the wallpaper. Eventually, the rug will go to the cottage which will be decorated in hues of black, white, and blue so I kept that palette in mind. I know vintage kilim rugs are all the rage these days but I love a good geometric flatweave. This rug was in brand new condition.

Now I've tended to think of eBay as an auction site for used products - do you think the same? While the site does carry everything from new to gently used products to antiques, I was surprised to learn that 80% of purchases made by Canadians are for new products and 75% are at fixed prices. To me, that takes out a lot of the ambiguity and hesitancy you might have for shopping online. Some eBay vendors also include import charges which again removes unwanted surprises for the Canadian shopper.

What else did I pick out? A set of pretty dishes. I tend to stay away from home accessories that are too feminine but as you can tell, I'm loving the blues and couldn't resist these dishes. They're perfect for spring! Wouldn't this be lovely to set a Mother's Day brunch table?

I decided to have a bit of fun and came up with a few table settings. Here I've mixed the florals with gold scalloped dishes I picked up in a thrift shop, a striped tea towel, and shopped the house for other accessories. A succulent is a great way to add some greenery to the table and it would be a nice take home gift for your guests.

This table setting feels more crisp and textured. The faux wood charger, painted wood slice, and pussy willows feel right for this time of year when the days are bright but there's still a bit of a chill in the air. Did you spot me in the spoon? I always forget to look for my reflection when I take photos! Oops.

These small updates have mealtime feeling brighter already but I have a few more eBay picks to show you soon. They're going in the as-yet-unfinished guest bedroom. I just have to find some time to do a few final touches and I can share how that redecorating project has gone.
