A Moody and Romantic Fall Mantel

Has the change of seasons hit your home? We've been having rainy miserable days here lately and they've put me in a wistful, fall state of mind. Time to say goodbye to summer and bring out the fuzzy sweaters, settle in with cups of tea, and layer your fireplace decor with warm and cozy colours.

I'm excited to be joining Krista at The Happy Housie and 30 other bloggers for the Seasonal Simplicity Fall Series. Today we're sharing our fall vignettes and fireplace mantel decor. I hope you enjoy my Moody and Romantic fall mantel look.

What colours signal fall to you? I bought these faux wine-coloured eucalyptus branches at Michaels and they set the tone for this whole vignette. I'm not a big fan of the oranges and browns that are predominant at this time of year so I went with a deeper palette of crimson reds, plums and creamy whites. I punctuated the look with hits of black. Black always adds a touch of sophistication and makes your decor feel grounded.

At the center of my fireplace mantel decor is this ethereal black and white photograph from HomeSense. It has been sitting in a closet for over a year and I've been meaning to hang it above the bed in our guest bedroom but so many other projects took my attention and I never got around to it. But I think it looks lovely here. It adds a quiet dreamy, romantic quality that seems just right for this time of year.

Creamy white pumpkins, a striped pillow, and stoneware crock bring lightness. I'm not quite ready for full-on pumpkin decor yet so these baby boos will do. Fall days mean nights by the fire so I've pulled this clean-lined chair closer to the hearth. The red plaid wrap hanging off the back is one of the things I reach for on chilly nights.

These leather bound books I inherited from Sean's mom are the decor accent that keep on giving. I use them everywhere, on bookshelves, under objects, with a few piled beside the armchair for evening reading. I love they texture they add too. Nothing compares to the feel and smell of old leather, don't you think?
