Week 5 of the One Room Challenge is here and I'm happy to say things are looking real good for the reveal of our guest bedroom next week!

Welcome and thanks for stopping by! If you're new here, I'm a Toronto-based blogger and plaid enthusiast who mixes DIY with traditional design. Catch up on Week 1, Week 2Week 3, and Week 4 of this guest bedroom remodel.

I have to say I wasn't doubtful that we'd be able to remodel this bedroom in just six weeks. As far as home renovation or remodelling projects go, a bedroom is fairly easy. Typically, there's no heavy construction involved, no major demolition, or complex electrical or plumbing systems to rework.

Compared to our last One Room Challenge project - our down-to-the-studs French style bathroom renovation - this bedroom has been a breeze.

Home Renovation Timeline

How long does a renovation take? Usually, longer than you think it will! Your renovation timeline depends on so many things: scope of your project, your skill level and speed, availability of contractors, inspectors, and tradespeople.

To help you get a better handle on timelines, this week, I'm sharing my FREE Home Renovation Timeline Template. It gives a breakdown of the typical tasks in renovation projects and an estimate of how long each task will take. Use it to give a rough estimate on the scope and timing of your next remodel or renovation project.

Bedroom Accessories

With just one week left to go, I have a few things left on my To Do list like shortening curtains and painting the closet doors. Most of my furniture and accessories have arrived so let me give you one last peek of some of the things going into this guest bedroom!

If you've been following along on Instagram, you saw that we installed this gorgeous light fixture from Hudson Valley Lighting. The Painted No.1 pendant was designed by Mark D. Sikes, who also designed this stunning light fixture in our dining room:

Mark is one of my favourite designers and I can't get enough of his updated take on the classics. The pendant in our guest bedroom is a real showstopper and its the first thing I notice when I look in the room.

But of course we have a few more pretty things that will be vying for your attention too! Here's a look at some of the accessories going into our guest bedroom:

  • This Black Watch Tartan lumbar pillow (ordered in a custom size) is going to be a bold addition to my pillowscape
  • How cute is this horse print? Set in a black wooden frame, it lends a vintage feel to the room
  • This botanical illustration, one of four prints going into the room, will create a great focal point on one wall. I really love the warmer colours of this print and how it ties in with the other blue accessories
  • Every room needs a hit of black and these oversized tassel beads in slate are a lovely way to bring some sophistication into your accessories
  • As a countertpoint to the black accents, I'm also bringing in some bling. This shiny brass laurel wreath feels both classic and modern
  • I have a love for vintage school team photos. I've had this one for years and have just the spot for it in the new room
  • This navy and cream flatweave rug has just the right mix of colour and texture I was looking for
Are you getting a feel for the room? I've made a few changes and the design board I shared in Week 2 has morphed into something a bit more masculine, vintage inspired, and graphic. I can't wait to show you!!

Now hop on over to see updates from the other One Room Challenge guest participants. I'm looking forward to seeing all these projects finished!
