Is it feeling like summer where you are? We had a scorcher of a weekend. So much so, that I had a bout of heat exhaustion after spending the entire day under the hot sun at the Christie Antique Show on Saturday. Eek. I've learned my lesson and will be paying extra attention to the humidex readings this summer!
The hot weather has motivated me though to get the cottage ready for the season. Things are slowly coming together. I'm eager to get everything in, finish off our projects and just enjoy lazy days.
You've heard me talk on and on about this buffalo plaid chair and it's finally here! Barrymore Furniture did such a phenomenal job. The chair feels amazing. The seat cushion is plump but not too firm, and the high back feels really cozy. I love how the buffalo plaid looks against the white walls. I wanted a modern farmhouse look and I think I got it with this custom chair!
I paired the chair with a brass lamp from Urban Barn (no longer available) and the rug from eBay Canada. I tried a few colourful pillows with the chair but this black and white fern pillow seemed to work best, at least for now. The tall ebony legs are a really nice feature. This being a cottage, I don't like too many dark corners where creepy bugs can hide, ha!
Black and white seems to be my thing because I have it all over the cottage. I'm really excited with how our bedroom is coming together. It's nowhere near finished (there's still paint and maybe a beadboard ceiling in our future) but the room is feeling comfortable.
Blue is the other predominant colour in our decorating scheme. The navy blue bookcase is in the living room corner opposite the plaid chair. I want to add more blue around the cottage... maybe for the dining room curtains? I'm still undecided about those.
Up in the loft, we added a sectional from Ikea and our old living room coffee table. Chloe has claimed the loft as her space and can often be found there doing puzzles or just lounging on the Muji beads sofa.
We're planning to add some built-ins in the loft for storage. But for now, I've had to put some star decals on the ceiling. With everything painted white, we don't notice the slope as much and have bumped our heads a few times!
Things are still feeling a bit bare but I'm glad to have all the big furniture in place. It's onto the next projects... painting, curtains, wallpaper. It's going to be a busy summer!
