Spring Mantel Decor

by - Tuesday, March 06, 2018

What's your favourite season? Mine is spring. The days get longer, clothing gets lighter, and everyone just seems happier in the springtime. While we still might have some chilly days ahead, I'm going to make it feel spring fresh indoors, starting with the mantel. I'm joining the Seasonal Simplicity Spring Series today hosted by Krista at The Happy Housie so there's lots of decorating inspiration ahead!

You can see our mantel as soon as you walk through the front door so it sets the tone for the rest of the house. And for spring, I want that tone to say light, colourful, and alive. You can do that most easily through flowers. I've been buying fresh flowers weekly lately and they instantly uplift my mood. The ones in the pitcher are going on Day 15 and are still looking good. Yay for inexpensive grocery store flowers!

I'm not sure about you, but I'm ready to shed layers not just in outerwear but in decor too. I decorated the mantel and ended up taking away 1/2 of the accessories. I've been experimenting with 'decorating minimalism' lately... giving my objects more breathing room, being intentional about each piece. It feels modern and in a way forces you to notice each individual object more.

I shopped the house to put this look together. I brought the lanterns in from outside and switched out the mirror for artwork I had stockpiled. The large-scale Audobon print was a free download if you can believe it! The little pink vase is one of my favourite finds. It's from an antiques shop in Prince Edward County. I can't wait to get back there this summer!

Just a simple update but it's put me firmly in a springtime mood. I've redecorated the rest of the room too so come back on Thursday to have a look around. In the meantime, some of my friends are sharing their beautiful and inspiring Spring mantel decor or a Spring vignette. Hop over to see what they are sharing...
