Get The Look: Farmhouse Foyer

by - Tuesday, March 12, 2013

One of the requests I've had from my readers is more decorating posts and ideas on how to furnish a space. I thought it would be fun to take some of my favourite inspiring spaces (via Pinterest) and show you how to re-create the look - on a budget of course and with my own spin on it!

I love the open, fresh feeling of this Farmhouse Foyer. I can't wait to have the doors open and let the spring breezes in. This garden-style bench is versatile and stylish (and more economical than the antique bench pictured above). Anchor it with a vibrant print above, like this classic painting by Gustav Klimt. This print is 26x26, which is a nice substantial size and balances the weight of the bench. The gold wood frame provides modern contrast to the more rustic subject matter.

On the floor, I'd put an indoor/outdoor rug which will stand up to muddy boots. I've selected a rug with some white in it which will pick up on the white warehouse pendant. There are so many inexpensive yet stylish lighting options these days. Lighting is one area where you can really save $! Beside the bench, I'd put this woven grass basket. It can hold hats and mittens in these last few dying days of winter, and hats and fashion scarves for the early days of spring.

You can bring out more of that country fresh feeling by using paint. On the walls, I'd put a warm white which will envelop you when you enter the foyer. The ceiling is a place to add a bit of interest. This cool but muted blue would contrast nicely with the white pendant.

And finally, give your foyer the "magazine look" by finishing off the space with a pair of classic Hunter boots. I love the sunny yellow of these ones which will bring out the yellow in the painting as well. See how that works? :)

What do you think? Are you eager to do some spring decorating too?
